Hey there. I’m Traci Cumbay.

I am Field Trip, and Field Trip is I.

Why Field Trip? Because every project is a fun adventure where I learn stuff and end up somewhere new. (Come along!) I’ve taken those trips as a journalist, copy editor, developmental editor, magazine editor, ghostwriter, and copywriter. Heck, I’ve even been paid for poetry.

I’ve been writing since first grade, when my spinoff of The Cat in the Hat earned me a spot at the Young Authors Conference. Years later, my hometown newspaper contracted me to talk to strangers and write weekly profiles. I learned how much I loved telling people’s stories—and that you often have to ask a question five different ways before you get an answer. For many years, I ate out a lot as a restaurant reviewer for The Indianapolis Star, INtake Weekly, and a slew of suburban magazines. Lately, I’ve been writing web copy, white papers, blog posts, case studies, positioning and messaging, infographics, and such.

I earned a bachelor’s in English from Indiana University and a master of fine arts in creative writing from Butler University. I approach writing as equal parts engineering and emotion and enthusiastically endorse the Oxford comma.
